When overfilled, saline implants can become hard; when underfilled, implants tend to wrinkle. Saline-filled implants are also more susceptible to capsular contracture than silicone gel implants. Capsular contracture occurs when the scar tissue surrounding the implant contracts and tightens around the implant, making the implant stiff and sometimes painful. However, saline implants cost less than silicone gel implants.
