Properties and applications of neodecanoic acid

Neodecanoic acid, Chinese alias: tert-decanoic acid; 2-ethyl-2,5-dimethylhexanoic acid; tert-carbonic acid; decanoic acid. Neodecanoic acid is a low viscosity aqueous liquid with light odor at room temperature, which is a key intermediate in the processing and manufacturing of various products, with very good hydrolytic stability, thermal stability and chemical reagent stability. It has very good solubility in non-polar compounds, which makes its application very wide.

Neodecanoic acid and its derivatives are important fine chemical products and basic raw materials. Due to its unique structure and physicochemical properties, neodecanoic acid and its derivatives are widely used in many industries such as coating, medicine, pesticide, metal processing extraction, etc. with its excellent properties.

Neodecanoic acid itself can be used in the preparation of: ceramic bleeding ink, metal processing auxiliaries, metal extractants, as well as lubricants and cosmetics.

The metal salts of neodecanoic acid (Fe, Co, Cr, Ti, Sb, Ni, etc.) are used in: ceramic bleeding ink, radial tire adhesive, paint drying agent and PVC stabilizer, etc.

Neodecanoic acid chloride is used in the following synthesis: peroxide initiator, pesticide intermediates and pharmaceutical intermediates.

Used as radial tire adhesives-neodecanoic acid can be made into its cobalt salt, which is a highly active bonding promoter for natural rubber, synthetic rubber or these glues with brass, zinc, bare copper or zinc of steel wire cord, rope, sheet metal.

Used as a drying agent for paints – neodecanoic acid metal salts accelerate the oxidation, polymerization and drying of paint films. The drying agent can reduce the activation energy of free radical generation, thus accelerating the cross-linking reaction after the resin molecule to achieve the effect of shortening the drying time of the paint film.

Used as metal extractant – China has abundant rare earth ore, but generally it is only mined and roughly extracted, then exported at a low price, and then imported at a high price after finishing, which is economically uneconomical. Neodecanoic acid can be used for the separation and refinement of single component rare earth elements.

Used as lubricant-Neodecanoic acid and derivatives have low freezing point, good solubility, good oxidative stability and hydrolytic stability, exhibit good low temperature effect, and have good solubility in various solvents. It has low viscosity and good lubricity in organic solvent solutions, as well as antirust properties and reduced resistance coefficient. Based on it, it can be formulated into automobile crankcase lubricant, various engine and brake lubricants, metal working and chain lubricants, etc.

Used as polymer peroxide initiator – The peroxide initiator prepared from neodecanoic acid is more stable and can be used in aqueous solutions at various pH values and can still be used at low temperatures, for example, it is still effective in the polymerization of vinyl chloride at temperatures below 70°C.

Used in the field of medicine and pesticide – Because of the high branched structure of neodecanoic acid, it is more soluble than similar non-branched products and can be used in the production of drugs for the treatment of arthritis, tuberculosis, psoriasis, etc. The key raw materials used in the production of ampicillin, cefazolin and other antibiotics also belong to neodecanoic acid derivatives; in pesticides, neodecanoic acid can also be used in plant defoliation and cotton, soybean In pesticide, neodecanoic acid can also be used as post-base herbicide for cotton, soybean, oat, potato and other crops.

Used as catalyst and preservative – silver neodecanoate can be used to prepare ethylene oxide catalyst, and nickel neodecanoate salt can be used to prepare oxidation catalyst. Zinc and copper salts of neodecanoic acid can be used as preservatives for wood, etc.

Used in electric and electronic fields-Silver neo-decanoate is used for making capacitor terminals and also for making silicate superconductors; lead neo-decanoate and tinene are used for making circuit boards; barium neo-decanoate, copper and yttrium salts are used for the preparation of electric conductor foils and thin film superconductors.
